Show times are 1:00 and 3:30. If you need more information or want to order tickets (Adults-$10 and $5-children), see Claudia or Katarina Chalk. In March we will be receiving the annual One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) offering. Proceeds from this offering are used to provide aid to victims of natural disasters around the world. This year our gifts will help people in Haiti and now Chile’ as they suffer from earthquakes. Please be truly generous…as generous as we hope people would be if an earthquake ravaged our Northern Kentucky, Greater Cincinnati area.
New! OGHS Funds for Chile
Despite being better prepared than Haiti with stricter building codes and more infrastructure, the big quake in Chile so soon after the one in Haiti is a shocker. The UCC One Great Hour of Sharing Fund always has immediate first-response money and contact with partners on the ground to assess where best to be involved further. Your contributions to One Great Hour ofSharing as well as specific designated giving guarantee you are always helping whenever you hear of disaster. All specifically designated funds go 100% to the disaster named. (Your contributions to basic giving – OCWM – Our Church’s Wider Mission – pay overhead). TheUCC works with partners, Church World Service (CWS) and Action of Churches Together (ACT) with local partners. In Chile, the UCC, through the Massachusetts Conference, is a partner with the Pentecostal Church of Chile, whose headquarters is in Curico, near the earthquake zone. While in Massachusetts, Association Minister Ruth Brandon pastored a church that had a partner church in Chile. Clearly specific contributions to both Haiti and Chile relief will be welcome for some time. They may be sent through SONKA. Designate them either “OGHS- Haitian Relief” or “OGHS- Chile relief”.
*Don’t forget Palm Sunday will be March 28th. Please attend, receive your palm and then keep it in your home as a symbol of Christ’s welcome in your heart and home.
*On Maundy Thursday, April 1st, we will hold our annual dinner at 5:30 pm and our unique and powerful Tenebrae Service at 7:00 pm.
EASTER FLOWERS
It is our tradition that members and friends help decorate the sanctuary for Easter morning by bringing in flowers and plants. Please have yours to the church (the upper door by the Mary Kaffenberger room will be open) by 2:00 pm Saturday, April 3rd.
HELP US WITH EMERGENCY REQUESTS
At our February Mission Committee meeting Andrew brought to our attention that there are a few occasions when people in need stop by our church for help. Most of the time the persons are referred to the Alexandria United Ministries, which we help support through our offerings at the community Thanksgiving Service. Sometimes the need is more immediate.
The Mission Committee decided to provide a small amount of money to be used by our office as a discretionary fund for such occasions. Items or small amounts of money (in the form of gift
cards or vouchers) would be given for gas, food, or warmth. Members of the congregation could help with the items we will need. We could keep the following supplies here in our building for
emergencies:
Gently used blankets in good condition
Non perishable foods with pop-tops or in plastic containers with a long shelf life
Wash cloths/towels
Bar soap/shampoo
Toothbrushes/toothpaste
If you have any of these things in abundance at home or would be willing to purchase and donate them, please bring them to church at any time the office is open.
Just doing God’s work,
You and the Mission Committee
